Luis Jakamo, an artist with music in his veins, founded Jakamo
Music in 1995, as a project linked to a radical change in his life,
when he survived a major car accident. He then took the decision to become a
music producer to put his valuable experience as a musician and
director/producer of his own music shows to good use.
As a way to keep active and as personal oath, he
decides to continue working in the world of music, which has enriched his
life with such a large experience and huge success.
Luis defines his music career thus:“ Music is my World, I cannot walk away
from it because it is in my blood.”
Since the 60´s, when he was very young, he started
his career as a musician in the Costa Rican west province of Limón, quickly
traveling to play in San Jose, the capital city, as bass player and singer
with the legendary band Bocaracá,his first band, founded with his good
friend, and also a successful musician, Isidor Asch.Bocaracá broke new ground with its innovative musical style. Its
greatest hits,“Desde ahora en adelante” and “Cahuita”,
are still well remembered in the country.
In 1973, Luis settles down in San José and starts
the Rock band Stop, which was a
new landmark in his successful career as musician and producer.
Once finished this Rock phase, which was the fashion
at the time, and always wanting to make a difference, in 1976 Luis and a
group of friends become the band Manantial,
which was the most popular music group in the country for over a decade.
Manantial was a pioneer in a new style direction, known as Música Fresca(”Fresh Music”), and earned the affection of national and
international audiences.
At the beginning of the 90´s, Luis took a new route
in his career to dedicate himself exclusively to production. With the very
talented and good friend Ricardo ‘’Baby’’ Chollette, he created the reggae
bandBaby Rasta Band, and works with similar projects.
As an innovator in the production field, Luis
produced the first CD’s made in the United States for national musicians such
as Editus, Cantoamérica, Marfil, Luis Ángel Castro, Baby Rasta Band, El
Parque, K-lor,and others.
Later, in the mid 90´s, Luis participated in the
organization of the first music festivals called Conciertos de Verano, nationally and abroad, with the support of
trans-national companies, where the most popular national bands then played.
In this way, Luis placed himself atop the market of music production, and
more recently, he has worked in radio and television shows.
Throughout his career,Luis Jakamohas been able to make his
childhood’s dream come true, and has become a renown musician. He is still
inspired by this dream, even since the time he grew up in the beautiful
Limonese town called Barra del Colorado, where he was born amidst the
lagoons, the river and the sea.
